WHY

Bidbus is an online used car marketplace where people can sell their cars through a network of buyers. Bidbus provides a unique way to sell the car through bidding. Bidbus uses its AI algorithm/database to help users estimate a quotation range that can be sold through its unique bidding method so that users can hold a more scientific and accurate psychological reserve price and enter the game with the dealer with confidence. The second-hand car network allows dealers to bid and make a better decision to "sell" or "keep it to the next round of bidding" based on the reserve price obtained in the previous period.

WHAT

The boarding flow is to clearly inform users of the difference between the above two estimated price options - bidding and direct cash offer, and promote users to use the bidding method to sell cars. The goal is to comprehensively optimize the entire flow, eliminate customer concerns through different design methods, and gain users' trust. It is important to empathize that Bidbus is supporting these car sellers.

DEFINING THE PROBLEMS

The primary problem faced by the company was that its platform failed to retain more than 18 out of a thousand users throughout the onboarding process and most users don't know how the bidding method could provide them a much higher price.

How could we retain more users and explain Bidbus bidding method in a better way?

COMPETITVE AND SIMILAR PRODUCTS ANALYSIS

Our main findings include:

  • These onboarding pages have clean layout to direct users. Especially, since most user are not familiar with these car technical specs, there is a need for adding explanative information. 

  • These onboarding flows usually try to collect data as much they can. 

  • They don't have too much features on one page.

The car retail platform usually requires users to enter the VIN firstly. However, most users don’t feel comfortable to share this private information at the beginning.

Selling cars is a time-consuming process since users usually need to compare different sites at the same time. How to emphasize the advantages of bidding method.​

Users prefer a convenient onboarding process but with enough explanative information to help them find the correct car specs.

Users usually consider car retailer platforms are in the same side with dealers. Therefore, it is hard to building trust between Bidbus and users.

Users prefer to receive a car inspection report to see final price after the inspection. 

IDEATATION

After synthesizing user research and competitive analysis, the team works together to determine which features should be prioritized by using MoSCoW method.

LO-FI WIREFRAME

After synthesizing user research and competitive analysis, the team works together to brainstorms several options about onboarding flow.  Our main findings and discussions are mostly focusing on layout design:

  • Split-screen offer a format that can convey dual importance.

  • Buyers are mostly first-time buyers and the unconventional layout approach can attract them in some ways. 

  • One side of the page could be used for providing explanative guidance for users.

How do we help users to retrieve the previous offer after they search other websites?

The improved version is the users can schedule a car inspection appointment with Bidbus instead of waiting for phone calls from Bidbus. At the same time, the system will automatically create an account for users and they can log into their home page

How do we refine the survey pages to make it more reliable?

To optimize the survey, we add 4 more questions relevant to the topic to validate the credibility of the Bidbus's Ai database. After users finished the survey, they will have more confidence in the final bidding price which is offered by Bidbus.

How could better introduce the price comparison page?

To improve the price comparison page, we decides not to use the split screen version so that we can address the importance of the final prices. In order to provide more information to introduce bidding process, user could scroll down to learn more about this platform. The engaging price page conveys information about how the bidding mode works and what are the next steps.
